South Pacific Dreams Notes:
This piece commemorates our family’s saga of nearly two decades sailing throughout nine island groups (represented with nine points of shell groupings) of the South Pacific. The center fish hook bone carving (makau in Hawaiian and hei matau in Maori) from Tonga is an important Polynesian symbol offering good luck, abundance, strength, health, and safe passage over water. South Pacific Dreams won a third place ribbon at the 2021 Mariposa District Fair—even though it had been displayed backwards by the kind volunteers in charge of set-up.
